FY 2005 Drinking Water Funds Available

EPA has announced the availability of FY 2005 congressional appropriations funds for the Public Water System Supervision (PWSS) and Drinking Water State Revolving Fund (DWSRF) programs. These programs provide states, territories, and tribes with resources to protect the water of more than 270 million people.

EPA has made $99,745,600 in PWSS grant funds available to help states, territories, and tribes support drinking water programs. Of that amount, EPA is reserving $6,419,900 in funding for tribes and Alaska Native Villages. EPA has also made available $843,200,000 in funds to support DWSRF programs, which provide states with financing for public water system infrastructure improvements. Since the program began in 1997, states have provided nearly $8 billion in low interest loans to public water systems within their states.

States, territories, and tribes may apply for funding through their EPA Regional Offices. Additional information about the PWSS and DWSRF programs, including the amount of grant funding available to each state, can be found at:

Water Monitoring Data Delivered to EPA Using Central Data Exchange

EPA and the Wind River reservation are part of a joint effort to pilot the Environmental Sampling, Analysis and Results (ESAR) project. The ESAR pilot project will be delivering water quality monitoring data directly over the internet using secure protocols and standards developed by the EPA Office of Environmental Information. "Water monitoring data are important, and sharing it with EPA can only help tribes," said Don Aragon, Director of the Wind River Environmental Quality Commission. The water monitoring data provided by Wind River were collected by the Tribal Wind River Environmental Quality Commission, using funds supplied by EPA through a Clean Water Act Section 106 Water Quality Management Grants. The other participants in the ESAR pilot are the states of Michigan, Texas, and Oregon.

This data exchange activity is part of the EPA American Indian Environmental Office (AIEO) Tribal Program Enterprise Architecture (TPEA). Data flows are planned for December 2005.
