Database—Documentation

Field Names Definition
WATERBODY_ID# A sequence number that provides unique identification to records in TBL_WATERBODY.
WATERBODY_NAME Name of the body of water that was sampled.
WATERBODY_TYPE Type of waterbody (e.g., lake or pond, river or stream).
STATION_ID# A sequence number that provides unique identification to records in TBL_STATION.
STATION_ID Station ID assigned to the station by the original datasource. The station represents the sample monitoring site.
STATION_NAME Name assigned to the sample monitoring site.
STATE Postal code of the state where the station is located.
COUNTY The name of the U.S. county or county equivalent in which the station is physically located.
ECOREGION_ID ID field representing a unique Level III Aggregate Nutrient Ecoregion.
ECOREGION_NAME Name of the Level III Aggregate Nutrient Ecoregion.
EPA_ECOREGION_ID ID field representing a unique Level III Omernik Ecoregion record.
EPA_ECOREGION_NAME Name of the Level III Omernik Ecoregion.
SAMPLE_ID# A sequence number that provides unique identification to records in TBL_SAMPLE.
SAMPLE_ID Sample ID assigned to the sample by the original datasource. A sample is an event, usually thought of as drawing water from the station, accompanied by an analysis of the water for the physical feature, biologic entity, or chemical substance being monitored.
AGENCY_NAME Name of the monitoring agency. AGENCY_NAME and AGENCY_ID are included in TBL_SAMPLE because of the variability of the agency data provided by the datasources. In some cases, one or the other was entered. A reference table does not exist so both attributes are present in TBL_SAMPLE.
SAMPLING_DATE Date and time the sample was collected.
SAMPLE_DEPTH Depth (in meters) at which the sample was collected.
DATASOURCE_NAME The name of the datasource that submitted the data.
SUB_DATASOURCE_NAME The name of the subdatasource.
PARAMETER_ID A sequence number that provides unique identification to parameter records in TLKP_PARAMETER.
PARAMETER_NAME The name of the physical feature, biologic entity, or chemical substance monitored.
STORET_CODE The Legacy STORET (data STOrage and RETrieval system) parameter code. In Legacy STORET, analysis results are assigned a "Parameter Code" from a master list of codes and analysis methods.
UNITS The unit of measurement for the parameter.
REPORTED_VALUE Reported numerical value for the measured parameter.
REMARK_CODE A sequence number/character that provides unique identification to remark code records in TLKP_REMARK. The Remark_Code is numeric if the reported value is adjusted by the original datasouce. The Remark_Code is a character if the reported value is adjusted by the database. If the Remark_Code is a character, it corresponds to the Legacy STORET (data STOrage and RETrieval system) remark code. In Legacy STORET, analysis results may be assigned an optional remark code, which is used as a result qualifier.
DETECTION_LIMIT The number that describes the quantity of sample below which the sample analysis equipment will not detect the analyte accurately.
STANDARD_VALUE The standard value represents the value that was used for statistical calculations. In some cases, the reported value is associated with a Legacy STORET remark code. If a result is associated with a remark code of I, K, M, T, U, or W, the reported value is adjusted. If the reported value is not associated with a remark code, the adjusted value is equal to the reported value.
STANDARD_UNITS The Nutrient Criteria Database development team converted all TN, TP, Secchi, and Nitrate + Nitrite records to a standard unit of measurement. All Secchi records were converted to meters and all TN, TP, and Nitrate + Nitrite records were converted to mg/L.
ANALYSIS_METHOD The name of the method used to analyze the parameter.
LATITUDE The measure of the angular distance on a meridian north or south of the equator.
LONGITUDE The measure of the angular distance on a meridian east or west of the prime meridian.
