We have made changes to procedures under Clean Water Act compliance monitoring programs. The final rule introduces several new analytical methods for compliance monitoring and withdraws other methods. There are also new sample collection procedures, general analytical requirements for multi-analyte methods, and method flexibility requirements for Clean Water Act programs.

The March 12, 2007 final rule revises the list of approved analysis and sampling procedures in wastewater regulations that we proposed for public comment in April 2004.

We also issued new methods that use culture-based approaches to detect enterococci and Escherichia coli (E. coli) in wastewater. Additional tests will also identify Salmonella and fecal coliform bacteria in sewage sludge.
