About the Associate Director for Health of EPA's National Health and Environmental Effects Research Laboratory (NHEERL)

Ronald N. Hines

Area of Expertise

Dr. Hines’ expertise includes mechanisms whereby exposures to environmental toxicants or drugs alter gene regulation and the genetic and epigenetic bases for interindividual differences in response to exposures. He also is recognized for his expertise in life stage-dependent changes in toxicant and drug disposition and the interaction of genetic and epigenetic variation with this normal developmental process. Dr. Hines’ has used a transdisciplinary approach to answering research questions, assembling and leading teams of investigators with research expertise spanning from molecular biology and analytical chemistry to clinical cohort studies.
