Timothy Watkins, Deputy Director of EPA's National Exposure Research Laboratory
Timothy (Tim) Watkins currently serves as Deputy Director of the National Exposure Research Laboratory (NERL) in the U.S. EPA’s Office of Research and Development (ORD). Tim has held a variety of positions in ORD including his position of record as Deputy National Program Director for the Air, Climate, and Energy research program.
Tim has also served as Acting Director of the Environmental Public Health Division in ORD’s National Health and Environmental Effects Research Laboratory (NHEERL); Deputy Director of NERL’s Human Exposure and Atmospheric Sciences Division; and as Assistant Laboratory Director for Air in NERL. Prior to working in ORD, Tim worked in EPA’s Office of Air and Radiation.
Tim’s expertise and interests lie in the area of air pollution exposure assessment, including air monitoring and modeling. Tim has also supported collaborative activities involving monitoring and modeling, including collaborative efforts between EPA and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) to support CDC’s Environmental Public Health Tracking program. Tim also currently serves as co-chair of the Scientific and Technical Subcommittee of the U.S.-Canada Air Quality Committee and as a program advisor for the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority Environmental Monitoring, Evaluation, and Protection Program.
Tim has worked with the EPA since 1990. He received his Master of Science in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and his Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Mathematics from Rollins College.
