Climate Change Adaptation Training

EPA has developed tailored training to increase the adaptive capacity of its own staff as well as the communities and local governments it serves. Below is training that illustrates how our climate is changing, what services will be affected, and how to strengthen our climate resiliency. All EPA training is Section 508 compliant.

Training Name Intended Audience What You Will Learn Type of Training Time
Local Government Climate Adaptation Training This training module was developed for local governments and communities. The training was developed in cooperation with EPA’s Local Government Advisory Committee. The training illustrates how a changing climate may affect a variety of environmental and public health services, such as providing safe drinking water and managing the effects of drought, fires and floods. The training also provides numerous examples of how communities across the U.S. are already adapting to climate change. Online, Self-Guided 40 minutes
Understanding Climate Change Impacts on Water Resources This training module was developed for those interested in building resiliency of water resources to climate change. This training discusses the causes of climate change, its potential impacts on water resources, and the challenges water resource managers face. Online, Self-Guided 45 minutes

Creating Co-Benefits Through Hazard Mitigation Planning and Water Resource Management

This module is for water quality and hazard mitigation professionals that are interested in integrating water quality issues and/or nature-based solutions into state or local Hazard Mitigation Plans. This module assists hazard mitigation planners with integrating water resource programs into hazard mitigation plans and help watershed planners understand the synergies between water resource plans and hazard mitigation plans.
