U.S. EPA to hold July 11 open house for the Sandoval Zinc Superfund site in Sandoval, Illinois
CHICAGO (July 10, 2017) — U.S. Environmental Protection Agency will hold an open house on Tuesday, July 11, to discuss the Sandoval Zinc Superfund site. Officials from U.S. EPA along with Illinois EPA, the federal Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry, and the Marion County Health Department will provide information and answer resident questions about soil sampling, results and public health.
The former zinc smelting facility is located off Highway 51 in Sandoval. In 2011, the government added the site to the National Priorities List, a list of the worst contaminated sites in the country. In June, U.S. EPA conducted additional soil sampling in Sandoval in response to new Agency guidance on lead pollution.
