Introduction to Computer-Aided Management of Emergency Operations (CAMEO) Suite (PER-229-1) with an additional day for Train the Trainer, August 29 to August 31, 2016 with the additional day on September 1, 2016 for the Train the Trainer, Pittsburgh, PA: The National Center for Biomedical Research and Training (NCBRT) at Louisiana State University is offering the above Department of Homeland Security (DHS) certified course. This course provides training on the fundamental elements of the CAMEO Suite of programs as they relate to emergency situations. As such, it includes detailed technical information and hands-on practice of critical elements in the CAMEO system and its associated programs (CAMEO Chemicals, CAMEOfm, ALOHA and MARPLOT). To better understand how the programs interface, participants are provided opportunities to practice key procedures that allow users to enhance planning and response activities associated with community risks. These exercises clarify the connections between the suite of programs and how they can enhance emergency planning and response activities. Continuing Challenge Haz Mat Workshop, September 6-9, 2016, Sacramento, CA: The Continuing Challenge Haz Mat Workshop is the largest and oldest Haz Mat Workshop offered in the Western United States. Held in Sacramento, CA, in September every year since 1970, this workshop has featured CAMEO training every year since 1972. This year, several classes on the CAMEO suite are being offered, covering most all aspects of CAMEO.
The Continuing Challenge Haz Mat Workshop will be held at the Red Lion Woodlake Hotel, 500 Leisure Lane, Sacramento, (916) 922-2020. The workshop costs $400. Louisiana State University, National Center for Biomedical Research (NCBRT) offers Department of Homeland Security (DHS) certified courses covered under the NCBRT’s Homeland Security National Training Program Cooperative Agreement. CAMEO introductory and advanced courses are included in this program. As a DHS primary training provider, the NCBRT can offer this vital training at no direct cost to your agency. University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA) offers two online CAMEO courses:
CAMEO 1 - This course covers the CAMEO Chemicals and the ALOHA software programs. The cost is $350. For information or to register for these courses, contact Karen Murray at UCLA-LOSH at (310) 794-5989, or e-mail her at email@example.com.
CAMEO 2 - (must have completed CAMEO 1, or have previous experience with the CAMEO Chemicals and ALOHA software) -- This course covers the MARPLOT mapping program and the CAMEOfm Data Templates, and culminates in a simulation of a massive earthquake releasing many chemicals at once, that your emergency response agency must handle. In that final exercise, you must use all of the software programs in the CAMEO Suite -- CAMEO Chemicals, ALOHA, MARPLOT, and CAMEOfm. The cost is $350. About the Instructor - The Instructor is Kevin Smith, a federally certified CAMEO Instructor (one of 65 in the United States). Kevin is a retired Deputy Fire Marshal and has responded to over 1,000 hazardous materials incidents over the course of his career. He has used CAMEO since 1987, and has taught the CAMEO courses offered at The Continuing Challenge Hazardous Materials Workshop in Sacramento every year since 1992.
