Sustainable Pavements Webinar Series
This multi-part, online webinar series hosted by the Federal Highway Administration Sustainable Pavements Program explores sustainability in all stages of the pavement life cycle, including design and construction considerations, preservation techniques, end-of-life options, and life-cycle cost analysis. The series is geared toward highway agencies looking to advance sustainable pavement practices. Webinar series recordings are available on the program’s website.

    Hosted by the National Institute of Building Sciences, this conference shares initiatives, practices, and policies to promote building performance and overall sustainability. Sessions typically cover building impacts and resilience, envelopes and design, energy efficiency and net-zero technology, and affordability.

    2020 Summer Study on Energy Efficiency in Buildings
    The theme for the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy’s 2020 Summer Study is “Efficiency: The Core of a Clean Energy Future.” The event will focus on transformations in the energy industry spanning resilience, health, and renewables. The event will reprise its Energy Efficiency and Equity panel, focused on how low-income communities and communities of color stand to benefit from energy efficiency upgrades, healthier housing, and local job creation. A new panel will address Scaling Whole-Building Retrofits looking at scalable and cost-effective solutions for building envelope retrofits.

    The American Society of Landscape Architects’ annual Conference on Landscape Architecture typically features panels on green infrastructure and urban resilience, continuing education offerings, and an exposition to explore the latest products and technologies in the field.
  • October 18–20, 2020 | Toronto, ON
    Grey to Green
    Hosted by Green Roofs for Healthy Cities and the Green Infrastructure Foundation, the 2020 Grey to Green conference will focus on the benefits of green infrastructure, including economic, biophysical, and performance quantification. Conference sessions will explore the latest science on green infrastructure performance, economic valuation, public policy developments, new technology advances, and best practices. The intended audience is designers, policymakers, manufacturers, growers, landscapers, and green infrastructure professionals. Organizers hope to engage diverse communities and provide opportunities for knowledge exchange across sectors by drawing on local expertise and practical experience.

    American Public Health Association Annual Meeting and Expo
    The theme for this year’s Annual Meeting and Expo is "Creating the Healthiest Nation: Preventing Violence,” which will focus on emerging public health issues. Organizers are soliciting abstracts for many themes, including community-based approaches to addressing health equity/inequity, clean air and water, climate change, nature and human health, support for local environmental health, and environmental justice and health disparities.

    2020 American Meteorological Society Washington Forum
    This forum will address public policy issues, including water, weather, and climate sciences; and how these components can shape risk management in public and private sectors.     Urban Transitions 2020: Integrating Urban and Transport Planning, Environment and Health for Healthier Urban Living
    Urban Transitions 2020 will bring together worldwide urban experts spanning transportation planning, architecture, green space management, environmental science, and public health. The conference is a forum for decision-makers to present their research and collaborate on envisioning future solutions. Session topics will cover six themes: cities; land use and transport; planning, environment, and health; nature-based solutions/green cities; justice and inequality; and engagement, impacts, and education. Abstracts are due June 5, 2020.

    CitiesAlive
    Hosted by the Green Roofs for Healthy Cities, CitiesAlive will explore green infrastructure performance, technology, and design topics around this year’s conference theme, “Green Infrastructure & Water in a Changing Climate.” The conference will include a trade show, tours, technical sessions, and workshops on sustainable urban design, including the use of green roofs and green walls.

    Partners in Community Forestry Conference
    Hosted by the Arbor Day Foundation, this conference brings together urban forestry practitioners, advocates, researchers, and government leaders worldwide. Sessions at previous conferences have covered topics such as the heat mitigation potential of trees, applications of the U.S. Forest Service i-Tree tool, the connection between trees and public health, and how to move from tree inventories to implementation.

    2020 Behavior, Energy and Climate Change Conference
    This conference is convened by the American Council for an Energy-Efficient Economy, the California Institute for Energy and Environment at U.C. Berkeley, and the Environmental and Energy Policy Analysis Center at Stanford University. Participants include local, state, and federal governments; social and behavioral science researchers; nongovernmental organizations; and energy-efficiency professionals. Conference topics cover building envelopes, building policies, air quality, energy efficiency, emerging technologies, and affordability. Abstracts are due May 8, 2020.

    American Geophysical Union Fall Meeting
    This meeting is the among the largest international Earth and space science meetings worldwide. It includes a mix of events, field trips, and scientific sessions. Past meetings included sessions on extreme heat and vulnerability, and geospatial heat island mapping.

January 2021

    101st American Meteorological Society Annual Meeting
    The theme for this meeting is “strengthening engagement with communities through our science and service.” Participants include public groups and associations, policymakers, emergency management teams, and other stakeholders. The meeting will explore ways to support and engage disadvantaged communities through citizen science and ambassador programs, among other initiatives.
