RTP Library Named 2017 Federal Library of the Year - May 2018

The EPA Library at Research Triangle Park (RTP) was selected as the 2017 Federal Library of the Year by the Federal Library and Information Network (FEDLINK) at the Library of Congress. This award was given to the EPA-RTP Library in the Small Library category (with a staff of 10 or fewer federal and/or contract employees).  FEDLINK awards recognize and commend outstanding, innovative, and sustained achievements during the fiscal year.  Federal libraries and staff throughout the United States and abroad compete for these awards, which are decided based on the following selection criteria: mission support, creativity/innovation, and customer satisfaction.  The RTP Library was honored at the FEDLINK Spring Exposition on May 1, 2018, at the Library of Congress in Washington, DC.  Names of award winners remain on permanent display at the FEDLINK offices at the Library of Congress.

2017 Library Needs Assessment - April 2018

The EPA National Library Network conducted a needs assessment of library users in Fall 2017.  The goal of the survey was to determine how library patrons use EPA libraries, what benefits they derive from library services, and what the libraries can do to improve information services.  For this project the Library Network partnered with the Federal Research Division (FRD) of the Library of Congress.  The final report was prepared by FRD and delivered in February 2018.  The Network will use the findings to prepare recommendations for the next strategic planning cycle.

Revised Library Network Procedures - January 2017

As part of a regular review cycle, the Library Network recently updated the EPA National Library Network Policy and Procedures to reflect current best practices and technologies used by EPA libraries across the country.  The updated policy and procedures were reviewed by focused workgroups, the Library Network, the Office of Environmental Information, and senior management across the agency.  The next review cycle will begin in 2019.
