Public Notice: EPA Begins Review of Dakhue Sanitary Landfill Site
Summary
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is conducting a five-year review of the Dakhue Sanitary Landfill, a Superfund site, located on Hogan Avenue in Hampton Township, three miles north of Cannon Falls. The Superfund law requires regular checkups of sites that have been cleaned up – with waste managed on-site – to make sure the cleanup continues to protect people and the environment. This is the sixth five-year review of this site.
Cleanup and ongoing maintenance at the Dakhue Sanitary Landfill are managed by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency under its Closed Landfill Program. The cleanup consisted of construction of a cap over the site, an active gas collection and treatment system, and groundwater monitoring.
More information is available at the MPCA office, 520 Lafayette Road N., St. Paul, and on this website. The review should be completed by January 2024.
The five-year review is an opportunity for you to tell EPA about site conditions and any concerns you have.
