ATLANTA -- The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) awarded the Florida Department of Environmental Protection a grant for $1.38 million to support a broad range of environmental programs.

“The EPA is protecting the environment by engaging our state partners,” said Administrator Scott Pruitt. “This grant will help Florida meet their local environmental needs.”

The funds being provided will support the state to continue the operation of its environmental programs while giving greater flexibility to address environmental priorities, and strengthen its partnership with EPA. These funds will also support Florida’s efforts to reduce air pollution, and improve water quality through permitting, enforcement, and compliance.

Additionally, the grant will help with watershed management, reduce hazardous waste and improve waste management practices, and help to preserve underground drinking water sources and ensure the protection of public water supply systems.

Performance partnership grants are important tools for EPA to provide financial assistance to states and tribes. These grants allow recipients to use EPA awards with greater flexibility for priority environmental problems or program needs, streamline paperwork and accounting procedures to reduce administrative costs, and try cross-program initiatives and approaches that were difficult to fund under traditional category grants.
