Responsible Appliance Disposal (RAD)

  • 2020 Ozone Layer Protection Milestones

Explore how successful ozone layer protection is a part of our everyday life

  • RAD partners have prevented 1.47 billion pounds of metals, plastic, and glass from going to landfills. That’s just one of the many ways RAD is protecting our environment.

  • Thirty years since the founding of EPA’s first voluntary climate initiative, Green Lights, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is celebrating the legacy and impacts of its highly successful climate partnership programs. Find out more here: www.epa.gov/30climate.

  • Meet RAD Partners

Consumers Energy joined the RAD program in 2010 and has now been a partner for nearly a decade. Consumers Energy received a RAD Champion award and was the inaugural winner of the RAD Ambassador Award at this year’s first annual RAD Leadership Awards Ceremony. Consumers Energy has demonstrated its commitment to the environment and sustainability and its leadership as a community partner. They have implemented a strategy to optimize their pick-up routes when conducting appliance collections and partnered with Habitat for Humanity Michigan for community collection events. These efforts exhibit their commitments to reducing emissions and costs and improving their communities.

RAD is a voluntary partnership program that works with utilities, retailers, manufacturers, state and local government agencies, affiliates, and others to dispose of old refrigerated appliances using the best environmental practices available—going beyond federal requirements to protect Earth’s climate and ozone layer.
