Two New England Facilities Face Fines for Clean Water Violations

News Story GraphicA residential developer and a construction company in Hanson, Mass. face a penalty of up to $157,500 for alleged storm water discharges from a construction site. Additionally, a Maine company that owns and operates six oil storage and distribution facilities in Stonington and Deer Isle faces up to $157,500 in EPA fines for allegedly failing to adequately plan for and guard against oil spills, in violation of the federal Clean Water Act and Oil Pollution Prevention Regulations.

EPA to Clean Up Aerovox Shoreline

News Story GraphicDuring this May and June, EPA and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers will be excavating contaminated sediment along the shoreline at the vacant Aerovox plant as part of the ongoing cleanup of New Bedford Harbor. This cleanup effort is expected to last for six to eight weeks.

Water Quality Monitoring Equipment Loans Available

News Story Graphic EPA is accepting proposals for loan equipment to groups working in urban areas of New England to generate well-documented physical, chemical and biological data for use in assessing conditions of the region's waters. Applications for the 2008 Equipment Loan Program for Volunteer Water Monitoring are due to EPA by May 27.
