Public Notice: Five-Year Review Begins on Laskin/Poplar Oil Co. Site
Summary
U.S. EPA is conducting a five-year review of the Laskin/Poplar Oil Co. (LPO) site located at 717 N Poplar St., Jefferson Township, in Ashtabula County, Ohio. The Superfund law requires regular checkups of sites that have been cleaned up – with waste managed on-site – to make sure the cleanup continues to protect people and the environment. This is the sixth five-year review of this site.
EPA implemented several actions to clean up groundwater and soil contaminated with volatile, semi-volatile, organic and inorganic compounds; PAHs; PCBs and pesticides. The cleanup included construction of a cap, groundwater diversion trench and slurry walls (underground barriers), as well as long-term monitoring, revegetation, and site-use and access limitations.
More information is available at the Henderson Memorial Public Library, 54 E. Jefferson St., Jefferson; at the Ashtabula Public Library, 355 W. 44th St.; and at the Laskin/Poplar Oil Co. webpage. The review is expected to be completed by mid-June 2024.
The five-year review is an opportunity for you to tell EPA about site conditions and any concerns you have.
