Fukushima Information and Resources
EPA is aware of some public concern that has been raised by recent articles about the impact of the potentially ongoing radioactive leaks from the damaged nuclear reactors in Fukushima. EPA’s air monitoring data have not shown any radioactive elements associated with the damaged Japanese reactors since late 2011, and even then, the levels found were very low—always well below any level of public health concern.

Regulations Under Review
- Comment period extended to October 29, 2014. National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAPs)-Radon from Operating Uranium Mill Tailings EPA has released a Notice of Proposed Rulemaking that would revise “National Emission Standards for Radon Emissions from Operating Mill Tailings,” Subpart W of 40 CFR Part 61. The public is invited to submit comments on the proposed rulemaking. Comments are due October 29, 2014.
- Comment period extended to August 3, 2014. EPA is seeking public input on its environmental radiation protection standards for normal (non-emergency) operations of uranium fuel cycle facilities. The Agency has issued an Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (ANPR) for 40 CFR 190(“Environmental Protection Standards for Nuclear Power Operations”). Comments are due on August 3, 2014.
