Richford, Vt. Dairy Farmers Pay Consequences for Filling 41 Acres of Wetlands

News Story GraphicThe owners of the Richford, Vt. Pleasant Valley Farm, Mark and Amanda St. Pierre, will pay a significant penalty, restore damaged wetlands, and perform additional environmental projects under the terms of a settlement with EPA and the U.S. Dept. of Justice for converting 41 acres of wetlands to corn and hay production areas on their dairy farm.

New Water Discharge Permit Will Give Better Protection to Upper Blackstone River

News Story GraphicAn updated wastewater discharge permit for the Upper Blackstone Water Pollution Abatement District will address severe water quality impairments in the Blackstone River and in Narragansett Bay. The new, tighter limits for phosphorus and nitrogen are contained in a final "National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System" (NPDES) permit developed by EPA.

N.H. Based Printing Manufacturing Company Fined for Environmental Violations in South Hadley, Mass.

News Story GraphicA Hudson, New Hampshire-based company that manufactures digital plates for the printing industry has agreed to pay $31,975 and perform a supplemental environmental project (SEP) to resolve environmental violations related to a chemical spill at one of the company's South Hadley, Mass. manufacturing facilities, which is now closed.

New England Groups Selected for EPA Environmental Education Grants

News Story GraphicNine environmental education grants totaling $189,000 were chosen this year by EPA's New England office from among 65 applicants. These grants fund projects that focus on improving teaching skills for educators, typically through workshops; educating teachers, students or the public about the environment and potential health problems stemming from environmental pollution; helping states or communities to develop and deliver environmental education programs; or promoting environmental careers among students.

EPA Grants Help New England Residents Enjoy Safe Beaches
