EPA MAKES AVAILABLE INDUSTRY SECTOR NOTEBOOKS
Nine new notebooks have been added to EPA’s Industry Sector Notebook series. Each notebook provides a basic understanding of the major environmental issues relating to the subject industry and includes information on general industry background; size and national distribution; economic trends; descriptions of common manufacturing processes; wastes released; pollution prevention opportunities; summary of applicable federal statutes and regulations; compliance and enforcement history; and resources for further research. The new notebooks cover the air transportation, water transportation, ground transportation, metal casting, pharmaceutical, plastic resin and man-made fiber, fossil fuel electric power generation, ship building and repair, and textile industries. Coupled with the 18 notebooks published in 1995, there are now 27 industries profiled, and over 100,000 copies have been distributed to date. EPA is preparing new notebooks on several additional sectors including: aerospace, agricultural livestock production, agricultural crop production, agricultural chemicals, local government operations and oil and gas exploration and production. As a supplement to the notebook series, EPA also has published the Sector Notebook Data Refresh-1997. This document updates the emissions and compliance and enforcement data presented in the 18 notebooks published in 1995. The document also includes data from the nine new notebooks. This information allows the readers to make rough comparisons among the industry sectors. All 27 notebooks and the Data Refresh supplement are available on the Internet at: https://www.epa.gov/compliance/resources/publications/assistance/sectors/notebooks/index.html
