EPA and Partners to Participate in Proctor Creek Community Showcase in Atlanta

ATLANTA - The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has joined the Proctor Creek community and a variety of partners to participate in a showcase event to share the many environmental activities and services going on in the Proctor Creek watershed in Atlanta, Ga. The event, which is free and open to the public, is designed to create awareness and stewardship in an urban watershed setting.

The showcase will provide an opportunity for the public to learn about the partnerships that are fueling activities to protect the watershed assist surrounding communities and to participate in activities in and around the creek. The partnerships include the residents of the Proctor Creek Watershed Basin's 38 neighborhoods, nonprofits, academic and faith-based institutions, small businesses, government, private foundations and corporations.

The Proctor Creek watershed located in Atlanta, Ga., part of the larger Chattahoochee River watershed, is 28.6 square miles with a population of 127,418 people living in over 38 different neighborhoods. Due to decades of neglect, the watershed experiences overlapping environmental and public health issues such as illegal tire dumping, numerous brownfields, lack of access to greenspace and healthful foods, blighted sites, impaired water quality, pervasive flooding and combined sewer/sanitary sewer overflows.
