CHICAGO, ILLINOIS - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is announcing approximately $1 million in funding to support pollution prevention work in Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Ohio and Wisconsin.

This competitive grant program is for projects that reduce the environmental impact of local and regional businesses through hazardous-materials reduction, energy and water conservation, and other techniques. States and "instruments of a state," such as a state colleges and universities, are eligible to receive the grants, as are federally recognized tribes.

"The technical assistance provided by these grants will help businesses find opportunities to reduce or prevent pollution through cost-effective changes in production, operation and raw materials use," said Margaret M. Guerriero, director of the regional EPA's Land and Chemicals Division.

Information on how to apply for the P2 State and Tribal Assistance Grant can be found at http://www.epa.gov/sites/production/files/2016-03/documents/2016rfpp2grant.pdf. Proposals are due May 9.
