PAMS Background

The PAMS network is an ozone precursor monitoring network operated by state and local agencies. The main objective of the required PAMS sites is to develop a database of ozone precursors and meteorological measurements to support ozone model development and track the trends of important ozone precursor concentrations. The PAMS program was originally started in the early 1990s to meet the requirements of Section 182(c)(1) of the Clean Air Act (CAA), and EPA made significant revisions to the PAMS requirements (found in 40 CFR part 58, Appendix D) as part of the 2015 Ozone National Ambient Air Quality Standard (NAAQS) review.

Training Overview

The PAMS Fundamentals Webinar Series consists of seven sessions that cover:

  • An overview of the PAMS program
  • Data review and validation
  • Data Analysis and Reporting Tool (DART) for PAMS
  • Automatic gas chromatograph (auto-GC) sampling
  • Upper air meteorological data (i.e., ceilometers)

Presentations will include best practices (along with the rationale behind the approach), real-world examples, tool demonstrations, and practical tips and tricks.

Who should attend these webinars?

This training will benefit monitoring staff who operate PAMS instrumentation and those who review, process, and validate the associated data. This event is intended for all levels of the organizations essential to the execution of the national PAMS program, including:

  • Monitoring Agencies
  • Analytical Support Laboratories
  • Support Contractors
  • EPA Regional Offices

Registration & Preliminary Agenda

  • This preliminary agenda outlines the general topics for each webinar. EPA will post a final agenda with additional webinar details in February 2024.
  • The training series targets various levels of PAMS implementation, so each session has a different registration.
