EPA Accessibility Statement

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is committed to providing equitable access to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) for all.  To meet this commitment, EPA will comply with the requirements of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (29 U.S.C. 794d).

Section 508 requires agencies to ensure federal employees and members of the public with disabilities have access and use of information and data.  Individuals with disabilities access must be comparable to access provided to individuals without disabilities.

The Section 508 standards are the technical requirements and criteria used to measure conformance within this law. In 2018, Revised Section 508 Standards went into effect. This update harmonized the standards with other guidelines and standards in the U.S. and abroad.  Including the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0) from the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). WCAG 2.0 is a globally recognized voluntary consensus standard for web content and ICT.  More information on Section 508 and the technical standards can be found at: Section508.gov

Reasonable Accommodation

Section 508 and Section 501 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 are often confused with each other. Section 508 requires that the federal government procure, create, use and maintain ICT that is accessible to people with disabilities.  Section 501 covers Reasonable Accommodation for individuals with disabilities who are employees or applicants for a federal government job.  Section 501 covers more than just ICT for people with disabilities. To learn about Reasonable Accommodation at EPA, please visit: The Office of Civil Rights Reasonable Accommodation.

Do you have a question or concern?

Please email the EPA Section 508 Program with your digital accessibility question or concern. When applicable, please include the web address or URL.

Do you have a complaint?

EPA handles Section 508 complaints the same way it handles other complaints related to disability discrimination. If you would like to file a formal Section 508-related complaint, please review the process for filing a Discrimination Complaint.
