EPA Accessibility Statement
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is committed to making its websites accessible to the widest possible audience, including people with disabilities, in accordance with Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act (29 U.S.C. 794d). This webpage provides resources about EPA’s policies, accessibility requirements, and the formal complaints process, in addition to other accessibility resources.
Section 508 is a federal law that requires agencies to provide individuals with disabilities equal access to Information and Communication Technology (ICT) comparable to those who do not have disabilities unless an undue burden would be imposed on the agency.
The Section 508 standards are the technical requirements and criteria that are used to measure conformance within this law. In 2018, Revised Section 508 Standards went into effect. This update harmonized Section 508 Standards with other guidelines and standards in the U.S. and abroad, including standards issued by the European Commission, and with the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG 2.0), a globally recognized voluntary consensus standard for web content and ICT. More information on Section 508 and the technical standards can be found at: Section508.gov
Section 508 and Section 501 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 are often confused with each other. Section 508 requires that the federal government procure, create, use and maintain ICT that is accessible to people with disabilities, regardless of whether or not they work for the federal government. Section 501 covers Reasonable Accommodation for an individual with a disability who is either an applicant for a federal government job or already works for the federal government. Section 501 covers more than just ICT for people with disabilities. To learn about Reasonable Accommodation at EPA, please visit: The Office of Civil Rights Reasonable Accommodation.

Do you have a complaint?
If you would like to file a formal Section 508-related complaint, EPA handles 508 complaints the same way it handles other complaints related to disability discrimination. For more details, please review the process for filing a Discrimination Complaint.
