Superfund CLP National Functional Guidelines for Data Review

In the 1990s, the Contract Laboratory Program (CLP) developed the first and most widely used centralized, consistent National Functional Guidelines (NFGs) for Data review approach for analytical data review. Today, the NFGs are intended to assist in the technical review of analytical data generated through the CLP and elsewhere. The NFGs provide guidelines in evaluating (a) whether the analytical data meet the technical and Quality Control (QC) criteria established in the project-specific Quality Assurance Project Plan (QAPP) or in the Superfund CLP Statements of Work (SOWs), and (b) the uncertainty and extent of bias of any data that do not meet these criteria. The documents contain guidance for evaluating data quality in areas such as blanks, calibration and verification, instrument performance checks and performance evaluation samples to aid in making subjective judgements regarding the quality of data for their use in making site decisions.

National Functional Guideline Documents
The following documents are designed to assist in the technical review of analytical data generated through CLP's SFAM01.1 and HRSM02.1 SOWs.
