EPA Administrator Michael Regan's 2024 Earth Day Message to EPA Employees

The message below was emailed to EPA employees, April 22, 2024:

Message from the Administrator banner

Dear Colleagues,

Each year, Americans come together on Earth Day to renew our unwavering commitment to protecting our environment.

The collective forces that created the first Earth Day over 50 years ago paved the way for the environmental movement for years to come, and the creation of our Environmental Protection Agency.

What started as a nationwide demonstration of over 20 million people, continues to be one of the largest humanitarian events in the world – a global day of action to promote the protection and conservation of our shared home, Earth.

We stand at a pivotal point in the history of our planet. As the impacts of climate change increase in frequency and severity, and global efforts to advance sustainability become more important every day, we must continue to work for a better present and future. A future where all people can breathe healthy air and have access to safe, clean water.

At EPA, we understand the important role our agency plays in building a brighter, cleaner, and safer world, both domestically and internationally. We are working, day in and day out, to implement the most ambitious environmental and climate agenda in our nation’s history.

We have made significant progress since last Earth Day – finalizing historic rules that will slash harmful pollution in our air and water, and implementing countless programs that deliver benefits across the country as well as billions of dollars to fight climate change and advance environmental justice.

This Earth Day, and every day, may we continue to be leaders for a greener and more sustainable future. I encourage each of us to explore our relationship with nature, as the world around us serves as both the subject and the muse of everything we do.

We are all lucky to live in such an incredible and beautiful natural world. May we remember our responsibility to maintain and preserve the ecosystems and biodiversity that sustain us.

I want to encourage us all to think of ways that we can continue to reduce our collective impact by recycling, conserving energy, adopting sustainable and environmentally friendly practices, and whatever else we can do to protect our precious planet.

Put your support on display and download the EPA Earth Day Teams background here. Happy Earth Day everyone!

Sincerely,

Michael S. Regan
Administrator
