Cleanup Status

CP completed a comprehensive site wide investigation. It then removed wastes, underground storage tanks, waste-containing drums, and open lagoon systems once used for containment and discharge of wastes. CP installed a permanent site wide cap and upgraded its storm water runoff and waste collection systems. CP also installed systems that collect contaminated groundwater and treat it, a groundwater cutoff wall, and a monitoring program to assess the effectiveness of the systems.  NJDEP has imposed a deed notice to restrict any uses of the property that might be a threat to human health or the environment from any residual contaminants left on the site.

CP will continue to operate the groundwater collection and the monitoring systems to ensure that the contaminated groundwater is under control. If deemed necessary, the groundwater collection systems will be modified, upgraded, or enhanced. New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) will limit the use of the on-site groundwater for as long as it remains contaminated.
