Cleanup Status

The property is being cleaned up under the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) Site Remediation Program through a voluntary cleanup agreement between NJDEP and Mannington. Interim response actions for limited releases have been undertaken, including soil removal and investigations. A vinyl sheet pile wall was installed along the southern boundary of the inactive industrial landfill.

A comprehensive cleanup program is underway. Areas addressed include removal of impacted soil and sludge from the active lagoons and former lagoon sediment placement areas; and capping, groundwater monitoring, and restrictions on land use at the inactive surface impoundment area.

An investigation and ecological evaluation of contaminants in creek sediments is underway, and a plan for remediation will be developed.  Groundwater monitoring and restrictions on groundwater use are in place at the inactive industrial landfill, and a plan will be developed for its final closure.
