The concern for your safety is our concern as well. EPA and the Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (LDEQ) are here to protect your health and the health of your family.

Chloroprene is classified by EPA as a chemical that is likely to cause cancer in humans. This is based on scientific studies that used both human and animal data. Learn more about chloroprene. For chloroprene, our primary concern is people being exposed for long periods of time (many years of constant 24-hour exposure) to concentrations associated with elevated cancer risk.

EPA is conducting monitoring in the area around the facility to get a better idea of the actual chloroprene concentrations in your community. The actual concentrations of chloroprene concentrations in the community surrounding the Denka Performance Elastomer (DPE) plant could potentially be of concern.
