Public Notice: Findett Corp. Superfund Site, St. Charles, St. Charles County, Missouri
Summary
Sixth Five-Year Review Completed
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 7 has completed the Sixth Five-Year Review for the Findett Corp. Superfund Site, Operable Units (OUs) 1-3.
Five-Year Reviews are required by the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA), commonly known as Superfund, when hazardous substances remain on-site above levels that permit unrestricted use and unlimited exposure.
Five-Year Reviews provide an opportunity to evaluate the site remedy to determine whether it remains protective of human health and the environment.
This Five-Year Review found that a protectiveness determination cannot be made at this time for OU1 and OU2, because further information is needed to document that soils and sediments are below ecological risk management levels. A Screening Level Ecological Risk Assessment (SLERA) will be performed to address this issue and a Five-Year Review Addendum will be completed with a protectiveness determination.
The remedy for OU3 was deemed short-term protective through monitored natural attenuation. The estimated remedial timeline for OU3 is longer than the time frame established by the Record of Decision. To accelerate the remedial timeline, EPA recommends completing the ongoing contingency process and implementing additional remedial actions. This Five-Year Review Report was signed June 17, 2025.
Site project information, including this Five-Year Review Report, is available to the public at web repositories. To view cleanup documents, please visit the EPA’s Site Profile page (see Site Documents & Data).
