NEW YORK - Today, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced that it has awarded a $100,000 grant to Rowan University in Glassboro, New Jersey. This grant will provide tools to introduce students, teachers, and community members to information about careers that are in critical need of promotion and diversity.

The E3 project, which stands for Educate, Empower and Employ, will focus on educating future generations about their environment, specifically renewable energy, and climate change. E3 will engage local K-12 students and educators, college students and community members to increase public awareness and knowledge about climate change and renewable energy. It will also promote environmental stewardship, and practice skills required for developing a sustainable and low-carbon future. Students and teachers at local county colleges and members of environmental education non-profit organizations will engage in topics that include air pollution, wind, and tidal energy. All project participants will be called upon to think critically about ways to reduce the carbon footprint in their respective communities.

“The E3 project at Rowan University is designed to engage learners of all ages through hands on teaching and will encourage participants to think critically about ways to reduce their carbon footprint,” said Regional Administrator Lisa F. Garcia. “Projects like this get young people engaged in protecting the environment and encourage them to consider careers in science and technology to promote environmental protection.”

This school year, thanks to President Biden’s Investing in America agenda, students across the country are going back to school with the opportunities for the greener and cleaner future they deserve. Through the investments in the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law and the Inflation Reduction Act, EPA is helping to build a future where all children can breathe cleaner air, drink cleaner water, and live in healthier neighborhoods.
