MEDIA ADVISORY: Congresswoman Sewell to join EPA Acting Regional Administrator Jeaneanne Gettle in announcing $171M loan to improve drinking water infrastructure in Birmingham, Alabama

Birmingham, Ala. (August 5, 2024) – On Wednesday, August 7, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. CST the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and Birmingham Water Works will hold a press event highlighting a $171 million EPA Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) loan to improve drinking water infrastructure in Birmingham, Ala.

This WIFIA loan, a significant step towards improving the city's water infrastructure, will enhance the drinking water supply's resiliency, quality and dependability. The WIFIA program's low interest rates will save the community about $50 million in interest throughout the loan.
