Cleanup Status

Note: The EPA  is the lead agency for managing cleanups at this facility.

On July 6, 2006, PADEP performed an Environmental Indicator Inspection at the facility. The site visit included an overview of the solid waste management units (SWMUs).  There are  1 four SWMUs at the site:  the former drummed solvent storage area, the inactive hazardous waste storage area, the truck loading/unloading area, and the current drummed solvent storage area.   No releases were documented from the former drummed solvent storage area, the inactive hazardous waste storage area, and the new waste accumulation area.   The inactive hazardous waste storage area was clean closed in 1994.

EPA's Final Decision of Corrective Action Complete without Controls for the facility became effective October 29, 2010 with no further action or controls are needed and the site is protective of human health and the environment.

Cleanup Actions or environmental indicators characterizing the entire facility are shown below. It is not intended as an extensive list of milestones/activities. This listing, and all the data on this page, come from EPA’s RCRAInfo and are refreshed nightly to this page. For this table and the Cleanup Activities Pertaining to a Portion of the Facility table that follows, a blank in the Status column could mean the action either has not occurred or has not been reported in RCRAInfo.

FBC Chemical Corp. is located at 634 Route 228 in Mars, Butler County and has operated a Wholesale distributor of industrial chemicals since 1968. In addition to distributing industrial chemicals, FBC Chemical Corp. collected spent solvents from its customers, stored spent solvents at the facility, and transported the wastes offsite for disposal. No hazardous waste has been transported off-site for disposal since March 31, 1988. No releases were documented from the former drummed solvent storage area, the inactive hazardous waste storage area, and the new waste accumulation area. The inactive hazardous waste storage area was clean closed in 1994.

Contaminants at this Facility

On June 25, 2010, EPA determined that contamination in groundwater and human exposures risk from contaminants were under control.

Institutional and Engineering Controls at this Facility

Institutional Controls were not required at the site.

Institutional and Engineering Controls help ensure human exposure and groundwater migration are under control at a cleanup facility.   Where control types have been reported by states and EPA in EPA’s RCRAInfo, they are shown below.  Not all control types are needed at all facilities, and some facilities do not require any controls.  Where there are blanks, the control types may not be needed, may not be in place, or may not be reported in RCRAInfo.
