Gold Standard Science

EPA has an important mission to protect human health and the environment. The agency recognizes the critical importance of scientific integrity and Gold Standard Science in scientific activities, including research, applied science, and the use of environmental information and data as part of performing EPA’s statutory functions. EPA is committed to upholding the principles of Gold Standard Science to ensure that EPA’s decisions and policies are informed by the most credible, reliable, and impartial scientific evidence available.

The Gold Standard Science Report

The Gold Standard Science Report describes how EPA is addressing each of the tenets of Gold Standard Science, including how these tenets are reflected in the agency’s culture, funding opportunities, budget and other resource allocation, award selection and reporting, and other agency actions relevant to the conduct and management of scientific activities. This Gold Standard Science Report was submitted to the Office of Science and Technology Policy (OSTP) in response to their June 23, 2025, memo “Agency Guidance for Implementing Gold Standard Science in the Conduct & Management of Scientific Activities,” as required by E.O. 14303, “Restoring Gold Standard Science.”
