EPA to Hold June 27 Workshop on Hercules, Inc. Superfund Site in Hattiesburg  

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – U.S. Environmental Protection agency (EPA) will hold a workshop on June 27 about the Hercules, Inc. Superfund Site to provide site updates, explain the Superfund process, share how to get involved, and answer questions. State and local partners, including officials with the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality (MDEQ), Mississippi Department of Health and City of Hattiesburg, will be present.   

WHEN:   

Saturday, June 27, 2026  

Open house: 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. ET  

Presentation and discussion: 10:30 a.m. – noon ET

BACKGROUND:  

Hercules Inc., a former chemical manufacturer , operated from 1923 to 2009. During operations, over 250 chemical products, including paper and textile chemicals, paints, varnishes, pesticides, and insecticides  were produced. The site was added to the National Priorities List in 2022 and is now managed under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA). The site is in the Remedial Investigation/Feasibility Study phase of the superfund cleanup process.
