WASHINGTON — U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) today announced that in this past fiscal year, October 1, 2025, to September 30, 2026, the agency finalized deregulatory actions that generated over $1.6 trillion in savings for the American people. That's greater savings than what past presidential administrations achieved over entire terms across all agencies combined. To highlight this historic achievement, EPA launched a new webpage and video detailing these savings for American families and the U.S. economy through implementation of the agency’s Powering the Great American Comeback initiative.

Deregulatory Agenda

“In this past year, the Trump EPA finalized an estimated $1.6 trillion in deregulatory savings for American families and businesses, all while maintaining strong environmental protections,” said EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin. “The Trump EPA is proving you can lower costs, restore consumer choice, and protect the environment at the same time.”

By the end of the Biden administration, EPA rules accounted for more than $1.3 trillion of roughly $1.8 trillion in added/new cumulative federal regulatory costs, an estimated $10,000 per household. The Trump EPA's savings are driven in large part by two historic actions: the February 2026 rescission of the 2009 Endangerment Finding (estimated savings of more than $1.3 trillion, including roughly $2,400 per new vehicle) and the September 2026 repeal of most power-plant greenhouse-gas requirements (about $310 billion). Under Executive Order 12866, EPA assesses significant regulatory actions by estimating the costs and benefits of proposed and final rules as part of its required regulatory impact analysis.

Congress also passed and the President has signed six Congressional Review Act resolutions permanently nullifying prior EPA actions, and the agency is streamlining permitting, including proposed NEPA procedures that would cut a typical environmental review from four years to two. The relief also shows up in everyday life, from restoring functional gas cans and ending the incentive behind forced engine start-stop to providing diesel derate relief for truckers and farmers, and common-sense refrigerant and air-toxics rules.
