OIG News Release: Arthur A. Elkins Jr. to vacate EPA inspector general position

WASHINGTON - Arthur A. Elkins Jr. today announced that he will retire from federal service effective close of business Oct. 12, vacating the inspector general position at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Elkins has been the IG for both the EPA and the U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board since June 25, 2010.

The EPA's Office of Inspector General is a part of the EPA, although Congress provides our funding separate from the agency, to ensure our independence. We were created pursuant to the Inspector General Act of 1978, as amended.
