SCRAM Surface Meteorological Archived Data

The files offered below consist of one or more years of surface meteorological data for various National Weather Service stations across the U.S. These data have been obtained from the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC), in Asheville, North Carolina. All surface meteorological data files have missing data filled as prescribed in the Procedures for Substituting Values for Missing NWS Meteorological Data for Use in Regulatory Air Quality Models (TXT)(8 K, 07-07-1992), except where the guidelines could not be followed due to an excessive number of repetitive missing values. Please read the Missing Meteorological Data Report (TXT)(1 K, 07-29-1996) to identify the station/years that are not complete. Lists of surface data stations, organized by State (TXT)(20 K, 07-29-1996) and Station Number (TXT)(21 K, 07-29-1996), are also provided.

Each year of data is a zipped file that contains a ASCII data file (*.dat) of the meteorological data readings for that year and a readme file (*.txt) identifying all changes made to the data. Each file offered is comprised of all of the available years of data for that station, each of which is a zipped file itself. Data, when available for a particular station, is from the years of 1984 thru 1992. A description of the Surface Data Format(3 K, 07-29-1996) is provided. Each file-year of surface data must be expanded, using the program MET144 (EXE)(18 K, 10-14-1999), in order to be compatible with many of the dispersion models and meteorological preprocessors.
