2021 P3 Expo - Green Plasma Technology for Siloxane Removal and Landfill Gas Upgrade

This proposal addressed the challenge of removing the trace contaminant, volatile methyl siloxanes in a sustainable and economic way from landfill gas through the design and fabrication of a non-thermal plasma system. The system focused on transforming siloxane to a value-added product and futhermore will assess the potential of upgrading landfill gas through syngas production.

Green Plasma Technology for Siloxane Removal and Landfill Gas Upgrade Poster

The poster focuses on the work completed and relevance to P3. The proposed NTP system successfully transformed a select siloxane from an inert gas stream to polydimethylsiloxane, a useful raw material. 80% conversion was achieved in 20 minutes. Also the technology has the potential of upgrading LFG through syngas production. The approach embodies the principles of sustainability. For the environmental aspect, the technology helps maintain air quality standards and reduces the risk from toxic air pollutants, contributes towards the reduction of GHG emissions and minimizes adverse effects of waste generation. Under the social umbrella the project embodies education. For economic sustainability the innovative technology brings the opportunity of new jobs, gives incentive for sustainable practice and positively impacts costs.
