EPA Empowers Americans with 2024 Chemical Data Reporting Information

Released April 16, 2024

Today, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is delivering on its unwavering commitment to radical transparency and gold standard science by publishing the 2024 Chemical Data Reporting (CDR) information. The release of the CDR information gives Americans, including communities, businesses, and environmental, and health advocates, access to the most comprehensive national source of basic exposure-related information on chemicals produced domestically or imported into the United States between 2020 and 2023. The data includes chemical types, production volumes, uses, and processing information reported directly by manufacturers.

The law requires manufacturers (including importers) of certain chemicals listed on the Toxic Substances Control Act’s Chemical Substance Inventory to report data to EPA every four years. Manufacturers (including importers) are required to report if they meet certain production volume thresholds, generally 25,000 pounds or more (or more than 2,500 pounds for chemicals with a specific TSCA action), of a chemical at any single site.

EPA uses this information not only to improve transparency, but also to identify priority chemicals, assess potential cumulative exposures, and support actions that better protect children, families, workers, and communities.

The data is available in downloadable files on these EPA CDR webpages and will soon be available in ChemView. Helpful resources about using and interpreting the CDR data are also available from EPA’s CDR website.

The next reporting period will be in 2028. The 2028 CDR submission period will be from June 1, 2028, to September 30, 2028. For the 2028 CDR cycle, the principal reporting year will be calendar year 2027. Manufacturers (including importers) will need to report full manufacturing, processing, and use information for 2027 only and production volume information for calendar years 2024, 2025, 2026, and 2027.
