Register for EPA’s Webinar on the Proposed Rule to Protect the Public from Carbon Tetrachloride

Released July 27, 2023

Join the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on August 15, 2023, at 1 p.m. EDT for a webinar on the Agency’s proposal to protect workers from exposure to carbon tetrachloride (CTC), a chemical known to present serious health risks including cancer and liver toxicity.

In July, EPA announced its proposed risk management rule under the Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA). IF finalized, the rule would require a workplace chemical protection program with strict exposure limits for essentially the entire domestic production volume of CTC, workplace controls for laboratory use of CTC, and a ban on uses of CTC that the Agency determined have already ceased.

The proposed workplace safety measures would require employers and others covered by the plan to comply with safety requirements within one year of the final rule’s effective date. They would also be required to periodically monitor their workplace to ensure that workers and others on site are not being exposed to levels of CTC that would lead to an unreasonable risk.

EPA will accept public comments on the proposed rule for CTC for 45 days following publication in the Federal Register via docket EPA-HQ-OPPT-2020-0592 at www.regulations.gov.

This webinar will provide an overview of the proposed regulatory action and will give the public an opportunity to provide input on the proposal, including industry groups, nonprofit organizations, state and local governments, Tribes and other stakeholders. EPA is particularly interested in hearing from stakeholders who can provide their perspective on the feasibility and efficacy of the proposed requirements for their workplaces.

Participants can register as listeners or to make prepared remarks. If you would like to provide remarks during the webinar, please register by August 10, 2023, at 5:00 p.m. EDT and select “attend and make a comment” when registering. You can register to listen until August 14, the day before the webinar.

Presentation slides and instructions for accessing the webinar will be sent to participants after registering via Eventbrite.com. Please ensure that emails from Eventbrite.com will not be blocked by your spam filter. EPA will provide copies of the presentation material on our website following the webinar.
