RAIN-2023-G03

Required Use of ID.me to Sign into ASAP.gov

Notification Date:  August 11, 2023

Purpose:  This Recipient/Applicant Information Notice (RAIN) informs recipients and applicants of the U.S Department of Treasury’s Automated Standard Application for Payments (ASAP) requirement to use ID.me to log into ASAP.gov by September 15, 2023.

Summary:  ASAP is the electronic system EPA uses to make payment under EPA assistance agreements. To improve security, public users of ASAP.gov, including EPA grant recipients, are required to enroll and register multi-factor authentication (MFA) credentials with ID.me no later than September 15, 2023. After September 15, grant recipients will not be able to log into ASAP.gov until they register, validate their identity, and enable MFA in ID.me.

ID.me is a free trusted provider specializing in digital identity protection, giving users secure access to applications.

Action:  Recipient organization users are required to register, validate identity, and enable MFA with ID.me before September 15, 2023.

This requirement will prevent public users from logging into ASAP.gov unless they act prior to September 15th. After September 15th, recipient organization users will not be able to log into ASAP.gov until they register, validate their identity, and enable MFA in ID.me.

Information on registering and enabling the MFA credentials with ID.me are available on the Department of Treasury’s Registering and Enabling Multi-factor Authentication page. Recipients can attend one of the upcoming free ASAP.gov: How to add Multi-factor Authentication to your Login webinars offered by ASAP.
