White Lake AOC Habitat Restoration Project
The targets and measures approved in May 2009 for White Lake’s eight Beneficial Use Impairments identified specific priority areas for restoration.
In 2012, the Muskegon Conservation District and the White Lake Public Advisory Council completed the White Lake AOC Shoreline Habitat Restoration Project. The PAC, District, and public and private partners involved in the project restored the White Lake shoreline and upland habitat at 10 sites. The project addressed the loss of shoreline and nearshore habitat:

The project addressed the loss of shoreline and nearshore habitat:
- Removed over 8,000 linear feet of shoreline.
- Created or restored 38 acres of wetland habitat.
- Restored nearly 15 acres of riparian and upland acres.
- Removed nearly 52,000 cubic yards of shoreline/submerged debris.
- Removed 500 linear feet of sheet-pile seawall.
Restoration of the 10 sites helped EPA remove two habitat-related BUIs: Loss of Fish and Wildlife Habitat (removed 2014), and Degradation of Fish and Wildlife Populations (removed 2014).
