U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and Chicago State University (CSU) have partnered to promote careers in environmental science and engineering, also known as STEM, to boost research efforts and reach students from diverse backgrounds.

“Fostering partnerships with institutions of higher education and raising awareness of environmental careers and research is a vital part of EPA’s mission to protect human health and the environment,” said EPA Regional Administrator Debra Shore. “These efforts also deepen our connections with local communities and help us work together to address environmental issues.”

“Through this partnership with the EPA, our students will gain invaluable hands-on experience, professional mentorship, and opportunities that support and elevate CSU's commitment to excellence in STEM education,” said Dr. Sonja Feist-Price, Provost, Chicago State University. “We're excited to work with the EPA to develop the next generation of diverse leaders who will make meaningful contributions to environmental protection and scientific innovation."

The partnership, made official through a memorandum of understanding, will provide students with information about various environmental career pathways. Students will gain insights in areas such as environmental science, engineering, and sustainability.

The newly formed partnership showcases a mutual dedication to protecting human health and the environment. The EPA anticipates continued partnership with CSU to enhance environmental stewardship and foster a more sustainable and equitable future.
