CHICAGO (Oct. 02, 2024) —Today, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced a settlement with 3M Co. to resolve alleged violations of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act at the company’s facility in Cordova, Illinois. The settlement requires 3M to pay a $125,900 civil penalty and correct the violations to help improve worker safety.

EPA alleged that 3M stored hazardous waste on-site for more than 90 days without a permit and failed to:

  • Inspect hazardous waste containers and storage tanks.
  • Equip open-ended valves or lines with caps, blind flanges, plugs or a second valve.
  • Maintain required documentation.

3M Cordova is a specialty chemical and adhesive manufacturing facility that is required to comply with RCRA regulations governing management of solid and hazardous waste. For more information about hazardous waste, visit EPA’s RCRA website.
