PLEASE READ: AUTOREPLY MESSAGE ON PESTICIDE ISSUES
Thank you for writing the Office of Pesticide Programs at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
We are receiving an exceptional number of inquiries due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19). Therefore, we may not be able to respond to every inquiry, or our response may be delayed.
Please read the following information, which covers our most frequently asked questions.
Health concerns: If you have a medical emergency, please call 911 or the Poison Control Center at 1-800-222-1222. If you have questions about how your health may have been affected by a pesticide, our partners at the National Pesticide Information Center (NPIC) can also help.
Novel coronavirus (COVID-19): Our website has a list of products that meet EPA’s criteria for use against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19. EPA will update this list with additional products as we review additional product data. All products on this list meet EPA’s criteria for use against SARS-CoV-2, the virus that causes COVID-19.
The easiest way to find a product on this list is to enter the first two sets of its EPA registration number into the search bar. For example, if EPA Reg. No. 12345-12 is on List N, you can buy EPA Reg. No. 12345-12-2567 and know you’re getting an equivalent product. You can find this number by looking for the EPA Reg. No. on the product label.
If you would like to use a product that is not on our list, look for an EPA-registered product with human coronavirus listed as a target pathogen on the product label. Look for the EPA Reg. No. on the label to confirm the product is EPA registered, and follow the label directions when using it.
For more information, visit our SARS-CoV-2 disinfectant list and Q&As. Additionally, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has a webpage on protecting yourself from COVID-19. See the Clean and Disinfect section of that page for additional tips.
Registrants requesting addition to COVID-19/SARS-CoV-2 product list: Companies with EPA-registered disinfectants that want their products added to the list should visit this webpage.
Bed bugs: Please review our bed bugs website. Our role is to provide regulatory oversight of pesticides used against bed bugs. We have no role regarding pest infestations at a particular site, nor can we fund or recommend on-site bed bug treatments. Consider contacting your local health department or hiring a pest control company.
Pesticide registration: See our registration website and Registration Manual. If you still have questions, email the appropriate contact for conventional, antimicrobial and biopesticide chemicals.
Product recommendations: EPA cannot recommend specific pesticides or products. You can look up EPA-registered products using NPIC’s product research portal.
Community issues: EPA is not involved in decisions about pesticide use in communities. Contact your EPA region or state or local government for assistance.
If your question isn’t addressed by the information provided above, we will respond as soon as possible.
Best regards,
Office of Pesticide Programs
