New Grant Opportunity Focused on Lower Embodied Carbon Construction Materials Coming Soon!

Released September 15, 2023

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) will soon announce a grant opportunity funded by the Inflation Reduction Act. The grants will provide funding to businesses that manufacture, remanufacture, and refurbish construction materials and products for developing and verifying Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and to States, Indian Tribes, and nonprofit organizations supporting such businesses.

This grant program, titled Reducing Embodied Greenhouse Gas Emissions for Construction Materials and Products, will help businesses develop accurate EPDs, facilitating the reliable tracking of emissions associated with the construction materials and products that they produce.

This grant opportunity is expected to be posted on Grants.gov in the coming weeks, and applicants will have 90 days to apply. EPA recently released this grant opportunity’s Assistance Listing, which is a detailed public description of a federal grant program. The Assistance Listing can be viewed at Sam.gov.

This grant program plans to make the awards in Fiscal Year 2024. EPA is providing notice of this grant opportunity in advance so potential applicants can make the necessary preparations to submit a competitive application to the Agency. Prior to applying for an EPA grant, applicants must:

  • Have an active account on the Sam.gov
  • Be registered on Grants.gov

Please note that it may take up to a month to complete registration on these systems. For help with grant-related questions and to receive notifications when grants are available, please send a message by e-mail to embodiedcarbon@epa.gov.
