Public Notice: EPA Begins Sixth Five Year Review of East Helena Superfund Site
Summary
EPA is conducting a five-year review of the East Helena Superfund Site. The Superfund law requires regular checkups of sites to make sure cleanups are protective of people and the environment, or will be once complete. This five-year review will be completed in 2026.
Yards and properties in and surrounding the community of East Helena were contaminated by lead and arsenic from more than 100 years of smelting activities at the former ASARCO smelter. As part of the site's cleanup efforts, hundreds of yards and properties have been cleaned up.
EPA has conducted four five-year reviews of the site’s cleanup remedy. We want to hear from you!
