Summary

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is conducting a review of the Rose Township Dump Superfund site at 1065 Demode Road in Rose Township, Michigan. The five-year review process ensures that cleanups continue to be protective of human health and the environment. This is the seventh five-year review of the site.

The site is comprised of approximately 100 acres of undeveloped, rural property. Illegal waste disposal began on site in the 1960s. Operators placed an estimated 5,000 drums of waste on, and into, 12 acres of the southwest part of the site. Waste disposal operations contaminated soil and groundwater with hazardous chemicals. Active remedial action cleanup began in the early 1990s; operation of an on-site groundwater extraction and treatment system is ongoing. More information is available at Holly Township Library, 1116 N. Saginaw St., Holly, MI. and at Rose Township Dump webpage. EPA expects to complete this review in May 2027. The review process is an opportunity for you to tell EPA about site conditions and any concerns you have.
