Summary

U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is conducting a review of the Oak Grove Sanitary Landfill Superfund site at 2536 Viking Blvd NW in the City of Oak Grove (formerly Oak Grove Township), Minnesota. The five-year review process ensures that cleanups continue to be protective of human health and the environment. This is the seventh five-year review of the site.

The landfill covers 52 acres of a 104-acre property and contains 2.7 million cubic yards of waste. The landfill received mostly commercial and municipal solid waste, as well as some industrial solid waste and liquid waste, from 1967 to 1984. Landfill operations contaminated groundwater with hazardous chemicals. EPA and Minnesota Pollution Control Agency selected a cleanup plan that included installation of a new landfill cap and groundwater and surface water monitoring. The owner of the landfill installed the cap with oversight by EPA. Minnesota Pollution Control Agency took over management of the closed landfill in 1994, and EPA took the site off the Superfund program’s National Priorities List in 1996.

More information is available at the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, 520 Lafayette Road N, Saint Paul, Minnesota, and at Oak Grove Sanitary Landfill webpage. EPA expects to complete this review in July 2027. The review process is an opportunity for you to tell EPA about site conditions and any concerns you have.
