Summary

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, in consultation with the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, is conducting a review of the Bowers Superfund Site. The 12-acre site is located at Rock Island Road in Circleville, Ohio. The Superfund law requires a review at least every five years at sites where the cleanup is complete and waste is managed onsite to make sure the cleanup continues to protect people and the environment. This is the seventh five-year review of this site.

This site was a landfill from 1958 to 1968, EPA’s cleanup consisted of removal and offsite disposal of all surface debris and improved erosion control and drainage. EPA also installed several new groundwater monitoring wells, a clay landfill with a topsoil cover, and fencing. The review of the site by EPA is currently underway and is expected to be completed in March 2027. More information is available at Superfund webpage. The five-year review is an opportunity for you to tell EPA about site conditions and any concerns you have.
