Public Notice: EPA Seeks Comments on Two Draft Modified and Three Draft New Class I Injection Well Permits
Summary
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Region 5, 77 W. Jackson Blvd., Chicago, IL, 60604, is accepting comments on its proposed approvals of: 1. modifications to two existing injection well permits, and 2. three new injection well permits, for Michigan Potash Operating, LLC, 600 17th Street, Suite 2300, Denver, Colorado. The existing (issued 2017) permits are for injection wells MPC 2D and MPC 3D; the new draft permits are for injection wells Hodges et al 1-36, Johnson et al 1-6, and MPC 8D, all proposed by Michigan Potash Operating, LLC for injection of non-hazardous salt water from a proposed potash mining and processing facility in Osceola County, Michigan.
The public comment period closes at 11:59 PM Eastern time on September 30, 2026. Following the close of the comment period, EPA will respond in writing to all significant comments on the proposed permit modifications and draft permits that are received at the hearing or submitted in writing on or before September 30, 2026.
